Information and Updates
Good afternoon Fallingbrook families.
As we near the end of the second week, we have seen many successes not only in the classroom, but also throughout the school. We see students actively involved at recess and in extracurricular activities. These are all opportunities to meet new friends, build on social and emotional skills, and have fun! A reminder that there are forms that must be completed prior to joining teams.
Some students are very vocal about how their day went, while others might need some prompting. Here are some statements that might help you better understand ‘how was school today?’:
-
What is your favourite recess activity?
-
Who did you hang out with at recess today?
-
What are you learning about in Math?
-
What was the hardest thing you did today?
-
Can you show me something you learned today?
-
What made you laugh today?
From an academic perspective, we have screened all grade 1, 2 and 3 students using Acadience to determine reading levels, and we will use that data to steer instructional practices to best support them. Similar practices will be happening in other grades as well to help guide every educator when working with individual students, small groups or the class as a whole.
We thank you for your continued support, and have a nice weekend.
Jeremy Nowiski (Principal) Michelle Minogue (Vice-Principal)
Important Information and Updates
PTC Meeting and Elections- We will be having our first monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 16 at 6:30 in the Library. Come out to meet your executive and see if you’re interested in being a member at large. Please send an email to jeremy.nowiski@ocdsb.ca if you’re interested in this role. The PTC is open to everyone, and plays a very important role in the success of the school.
IEP Consultation Form- Check your email/spam folder-If you have a child with an IEP (Individual Education Plan) please check your email for our digital form. This is a way for you to share/update information about your child and how it may best support their learning at school. If you did not receive it, but want to give some input to your child's IEP - please email ryan.briggs@ocdsb.ca
Accident Insurance- Creating a caring and safe environment for our students is our top priority. Unfortunately, despite all reasonable precautions being taken, accidents can still happen. Some injuries may result in medical, dental or other expenses that are not covered by provincial health care or employer group plans and caregivers become responsible for these expenses. The OCDSB does not provide student accident insurance and encourages all caregivers to consider purchasing accident insurance or student accident insurance for incidents that may not be covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) or any additional medical plans they have. Student accident insurance is available for purchase, on a voluntary basis. Caregivers may apply online at insuremykids.com or call 1-800-463-5437. The accident insurance coverage options range from $17.00/year to $33.00/year. All plans provide 24/7 coverage and a variety of important accident benefits (benefit limits differ based on plan selected). If you have any questions, please call Jones DesLauriers Ottawa (formerly Binks Insurance Brokers) directly at 613-226-1350.
Student Fee- Costs associated with agendas, extracurricular activities, special events, transportation and sports have all increased significantly. As a result, we will be requesting a $20 student fee to offset these costs. The student fee can be paid online at ocdsb.schoolcashonline.com.
