January 10, 2025
Good afternoon Fallingbrook families.
We hope that everyone had a restful holiday, and that 2025 is off to a great start!
The cold weather brings a reminder to ensure that your children are dressed appropriately to be outside everyday. School yards can feel especially chilly on a windy day.
We do have many extra-curricular activities currently going on such as: the Ukulele Club, GSA Club, Cat Club, Library Club and Makerspace Club, and good luck to all junior and intermediate students who are trying out for the basketball teams. Tryouts begin in the next two weeks. Please encourage your children to listen to morning announcements to see what is happening each day!
We’re also looking forward to upcoming guest speakers such as: the Ottawa Electricity Safety and Conservation Presentation for all students on January 21, MADD presentation (focuses on the dangers of impaired driving) for intermediate students on February 3, and Bboyism Dance Company presenting to intermediate students on February 25. Please reach out if you have any questions about any of these presentations.
The school board has asked each school to create an Attendance Team to support families so that their child(ren) are coming to school on time and/or on a regular basis. We recognize that sometimes there are extenuating circumstances. Studies have shown that when you miss two days of school per month, which amounts to 20 days and 10% of the school year, that academic achievement is often impacted. Ideally, students should be at school by 9:10 AM so that they can start the day with their peers, hear information from their teacher, and listen to announcements to hear about the fun things that they can be a part of. We will be reaching out to families in the near future to see if we can help in any way.
We are looking forward to working with you to ensure a successful second half of the year!
