Principal's Message

Welcome to the Fallingbrook Community E.S. website!

Fallingbrook is a home away from home for approximately 320 students and almost 40 staff members. Located in the east end of the City of Ottawa, we are a dual track school offering the English program and the Early French Immersion program to students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8. We also offer the Learning Disability Specialized Intervention Program (LD SIP). Please visit the OCDSB website for more information about this specialized program.

Our priority this year continues to be safety. We will continue to follow strict COVID-19 protocols within our school and appreciate your collaboration and support with these measures.

Our dedicated school team follows a relationship-based approach to student well-being and achievement. We are committed to creating the conditions required for culturally-responsible and mentally-healthy learning and working environments. We are committed to continuing our learning about Truth and Reconciliation and decolonization of learning. We are committed to learning about and addressing systemic barriers and racism. We are committed to supporting students who identify as 2SLGBTQ+ or questioning their gender identity. We are committed to having all of our students’ voices, our students’ stories, and our students’ identities heard and reflected in the classroom.

We use the OCDSB character education wheel as the foundation of everything we do. We strive to make our school a safe, respectful, accepting, and caring place for everyone.

Mathematics and Literacy continue to be a large focus in our curriculum. We aim to implement a culturally responsive and relevant program that supports all learners. An important focus this year will be on assessment for learning to inform our instructional moves, based on our students’ learning strengths and learning needs. Instead of looking at the academic impact of the pandemic as a learning loss, we are adopting an asset based mindset and meeting students where they are.

Fallingbrook school is dedicated to creating a culture of learning that supports individual student needs and challenges all learners. Our focus is on creating the conditions for learning that our students need to be successful in all areas of school and providing support to help bridge the gaps in our students’ learning, self regulation skills and social skills.

We follow a whole school approach to address bullying. This approach aims to foster a positive school climate, safe and caring relationships, and equitable conditions for learning.

Fallingbrook is very fortunate to have an active parent/guardian and caregivers community to support student learning and school activities. We are very grateful to the members of our Parent Teacher Council who work collaboratively with our school towards common goals.

I look forward to a terrific year and to working with you as a partner in your child's education.  Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions or concerns.
